Krystyn’s Caryatids: Nicki Marrone, Eva Read-Warden, Audrey Maxwell, and Connie G. Rivera

Nicki Marrone, AIA, is a Principal at Alamo Architects, where she’s been shaping spaces since 2000. A Rice University graduate with degrees in Art and Architecture, her work spans PreK–12 schools, sustainable design, and master planning. A passionate advocate for equity and representation in the field, Nicki led the AIA San Antonio Chapter in 2015 and served as 2023 President of the Texas Society of Architects. Her leadership on the Society’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Taskforce helped earn her the 2024 TXA Award for Equitable Practice in Architecture in Honor of John S. Chase Jr., FAIA. She’s also a dedicated mentor, inspiring future architects through career days and community programs.

Eva Read-Warden, AIA, is a Principal at The Arkitex Studio and a graduate of Mississippi State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Architecture. After beginning her career in Pennsylvania and New Mexico, she made Bryan, Texas home thirty decades ago and today is a Principal at Arkitex. Her experience spans everything from higher education renovations to new facilities for faith-based clients, with a special passion for projects that serve the community and preserve historic places.

A dedicated leader and volunteer, Eva has served two terms as President of AIA Brazos, chaired the Texas Society of Architects’ Historic Resources Committee, and held multiple state-level roles including 2022 President of the Texas Society of Architects. She also represented Texas on the AIA National Small Firms Exchange and continues to serve her local community on the City of Bryan Historic Landmark Commission.

Audrey Maxwell, AIA, is a Principal at Malone Maxwell Dennehy Architects, where she brings broad project experience with a focus on corporate interiors. She earned her Master of Architecture from Arizona State University in 2009 and her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004.

An active leader in the profession, Audrey is the served as President of the Texas Society of Architects in 2021. She has also chaired the Society’s Publications and Design Conference Committees and continuous to contribute as a writer for Texas Architect magazine.

Connie G. Rivera, AIA, is the Managing Principal at Pfluger Architects in Corpus Christi and has served as the 2020 President of the Texas Society of Architects. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Architecture, Connie’s career is built on leadership, service, and community.

She began her AIA journey with AIA Corpus Christi, where she helped guide the chapter’s transition from a volunteer-led to a staffed organization — all while earning her architecture license. Later, she became chapter president, one of only two members to have held both roles.

Now Connie continues prioritizing bringing people together to achieve shared goals and being a champion of equity, inclusion, and advocacy in the profession, while balancing her favorite role, being a mom.
